Mobile-service subscribers of UAE's etisalat hit hard by disruptions

Dubai: etisalat's mobile services faced major disruptions on Monday morning, causing users difficulties in accessing the network's GSM services.

Although mobile to mobile services between etisalat subscribers were functioning normally most of the day, landline subscribers and du mobile subscribers had difficulty reaching etisalat mobile lines.

There were unconfirmed reports that international calls have also been disrupted.

etisalat on Monday afternoon said it was investigating the incident, but did not return Gulf News' request for details of the disruption, its cause and likelihood of it being repeated.

Dubai-based du, however, issued a statement saying its fixed line and mobile subscribers were not able to reach etisalat numbers with a 050 prefix "due to a technical issue on etisalat network".

It was observed that access to etisalat mobile lines had been restored by approximately 1pm, but etisalat did not confirm that.
