Abu Dhabi: Minister of Environment and Water, Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Kindi, has issued a decision to ban the import of live birds and poultry from Suffolk in England.

The move is a precautionary measure following the discovery of the deadly strain of the H5N1 bird flu virus in poultry at a turkey farm in Suffolk.

The Philippines is culling upwards of 200,000 chickens, ducks and quail to eradicate the spread of the outbreak. Philippine Agriculture Chief Emmanuel Piñol on Sunday said that the newly-discovered strain of bird flu in Pampqanga is not the H5N6 strain that can be transmitted to humans.
