Abu Dhabi: A Pakistani truck driver died and his assistant suffered moderate injuries after they were run over while changing the vehicle’s tyres.

The incident occurred on the side of Tarif Madinat Zayed road in the Western Region according to police officials.

The official revealed that tyre explosions comprise around three per cent of all road accidents which occurred in the Western Region during the first quarter of this year.

“Spare parts, including used tyres, are not to be kept on the side of the road, as these act as a hurdle to road users and can result in major car accidents,” the official added.

The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate launched a three-month campaign titled ‘A Summer without Accidents’ in a bid to raise road awareness among motorists. As part of the initiative, drivers are asked to check their tyres’ functionality, and to change them in case any signs of damage appear on their surface.
