Labour dispute resolved by authorities
Ras Al Khaimah: The Labour Department has successfully resolved a dispute between 70 Asian workers and their employer.
The labourers, mainly Indians and Bangladeshis, lodged a complaint with the Labour Department claiming they had not received their salaries for the past three to five months. The labourers demanded the money as a lump sum, explaining that they were battling to meet their financial commitments and those of their families back home.
The workers said they had explored all avenues in an attempt to persuade their employer to pay them before approaching the Labour Department.
They provided the labour officials with documentation to support their claims as well as proof of expenses.
The Labour Inspection Section at the RAK Labour Department duly investigated the case and ruled in favour of the labourers. The labour inspectors paid a visit to the sponsor company and negotiated a settlement with the labourers' employers.
