Hundreds of RAK construction workers protest salary cut
Ras Al Khaimah: Hundreds of construction labourers protested on Wednesday after their salaries landed in the banks with a 30 per cent deduction.
An average of Dh 500 was deducted from the salaries. The laborers decided not to go to work.
A senior official at the construction company said once the management of the company learnt about the protest, the company's decision was reverted.
The official said the labourers were hired by a Dubai based company and that the decision to deduct their salary was suggested by that company.
The official said the construction company had hired about five thousand laborers from the recruitment company which officially asked the it to deduct about 30 per cent of the laborers salaries for six months and keep that money as guarantee. The hiring company wanted that money to be put on hold as the company pays Dh 3,000 for each absconding case.
