Ajman: An elite rescue team from Dubai rushed to Ajman as soon as the news streamed into the police headquarters, the head of the team said.

A sniffer dog was also brought to the scene when news came that people might be trapped under the building rubble.

"This is a very tough job," said the head of the rescue team, who did not wish to be named.

"The dog has identified the spots where the bodies are buried," he said, but added that getting to them requires breaking the hardened concrete.

Debris

The workers are not only crushed by the concrete but also by the other construction debris such as steel girders and wooden blocks, he said. "The chances of survival are very slim," he added. The team of workers was pouring concrete when a site engineer noticed a leak and asked some workers to go down and check it out.
