Mohammad pardons 8 female prisoners
Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of eight female inmates from the women's jail at Dubai Police's Punitive and Correctional Establishments.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Acting Chief of Dubai Police, said Shaikh Mohammad's gesture comes as part of his many humanitarian gestures.
He said the pardoned inmates from different nationalities have been serving their jail terms with their children.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina said five of the eight women gave birth in jail, while three of them are due to give birth soon. He said they were sentenced for various crimes for periods ranging between three and four years.
He said the women were pardoned on humanitarian grounds.
Meanwhile, Maj Gen Al Mazeina inspected Dubai Police's Punitive and Correctional Establishments as part of the annual inspection programme.
He said these facilities are correctional establishments before being punitive ones, thanks to the various programmes offered to rehabilitate inmates.
He visited various sections of the establishments and was also briefed on a new project, an auto-mechanical workshop, which aims to train inmates in auto-mechanical engineering.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina also gave a lecture on the negative consequences of drug addiction to Emirati inmates who are serving jail terms for drug related offences.
