UAE makes bid to host IRENA in Abu Dhabi

Canberra: UAE Ambassador to Australia, Dr Saeed Mohammad Al Shamsi, has conveyed a message from Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, to Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, on the UAE international lobby to host the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi.

In a related development, Al Shamsi urged all the Arab ambassadors in their periodic meeting to support the UAE candidature to host IRENA.

A message in this respect will be addressed by the Arab Ambassadors Council to the Australian and New Zealand authorities.

Al Shamsi was chairing the periodic meeting.

He announced that the UAE will launch the first carbon-free city in the World.

The UAE ambassador to Australia will meet the Pacific group during the second IRENA meeting in Cairo to lobby for hosting it in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, the UAE's Permanent Representative to the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland, Ambassador Obaid Salem Al Za'abi, has met here with the Djibouti Permanent Representative to the UN office in Geneva, Ambassador Mohammad Siad Diwali, in his capacity as head of Francophone group in Geneva.

The meeting comes in line with the UAE's sustained lobbying to host the IRENA in Abu Dhabi.

Al Za'abi briefed the Djibouti official about the merits of the UAE hosting the IRENA.

Al Za'abi mentioned the country's distinguished achievements in regard to environment and energy areas.
