UAE leaders discuss Gulf issues and peace process with Cheney

Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday received visiting US Vice-President Dick Cheney in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The leaders exchanged views on a host of issues of mutual concern and the latest regional and international developments, with emphasis on the situation in Iraq.

They also discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them in various fields. Shaikh Khalifa stressed the UAE's keen interest in supporting international efforts aiming at reviving the Middle East peace process in compliance with international laws, especially resolutions drawn up by the UN Security Council and the Arab peace initiative.

The US Vice-President conveyed to Shaikh Khalifa greetings from US President George W. Bush.

Cheney arrived in the UAE on Thursday as part of a tour of the region.
