Mohammad-Merkel talks focus on war

Berlin: The UAE and Germany on Monday discussed latest regional developments and ways to support international efforts aiming to end the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met separately German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin yesterday.

They discussed the political developments with a focus on the Israeli war on Gaza and its catastrophic consequences on the Palestinian people.

Shaikh Mohammad praised Germany's role in international efforts and called for collaborating regional and international efforts to put an end to Israel's arrogance and stop its major aggression on the Palestinian people.

Ceasefire

The German minister briefed Shaikh Mohammad on the outcome of his recent tour of the Middle East and efforts being exerted by Germany and other countries to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

Shaikh Mohammad was also informed about international efforts and the UN Security Council resolution that called for ceasefire and put an end to the Israeli assault and the killing of innocent Palestinians.

Steinmeier said that his country was coordinating efforts with other European countries to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinians.

Shaikh Mohammad and German officials discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them in the political, economic and cultural fields.

On the sidelines of the talks, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, and Steinmeier, signed an agreement to establish a political dialogue.
