Mohammad holds meeting with municipal officials

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday visited the Dubai Municipality.

The Vice-President ordered the launch of an awareness campaign to educate the public about the importance of clean environment and the adoption of green buildings practices. The campaign will target all sectors of the community with a focus on schoolchildren.

Shaikh Mohammad was received by Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, acting Director General of the municipality, directors and heads of departments.

Shaikh Mohammad discussed with them ways to improve services offered by the municipality to the public.

He reviewed designs and components of a number of infrastructure projects being implemented by the municipality to provide all means of comfort and facilities for both UAE citizens and expatriates.

Shaikh Mohammad viewed the green buildings project that he had earlier ordered to implement, in line with international standards to improve the quality of life.

Olympic-size pool

Shaikh Mohammad also reviewed the progress on the Olympic-size swimming pool project, which is expected to be completed by 2010. The multi-use swimming pool will accommodate 15,000 spectators and host the World Swimming Championship in 2010.

He also reviewed progress on a wastewater treatment station in Jebel Ali, which costs Dh1.5 billion and will have the capacity of 300,000 cubic metres per day.

The project will be implemented in stages, the first of which will be completed in 2009.

Shaikh Mohammad discussed with the municipality officials concepts and plans to develop more than 17 natural reserves and setting up 36 parks and 70 public squares and other projects to increase green spaces in the city, and recycle waste and ensuring a clean and healthy environment.

He expressed his satisfaction at the progress on these projects and thanked the officials.

Growth discussed

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, met a number of dignitaries, senior officials and businessmen yesterday, at Zabeel Palace.

During the meeting that was also attended by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Mohammad discussed the economic and growth accomplishments achieved recently in all fields.

The meeting was also attended by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Event Management Corporation, Shaikh Majid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and senior officials.
