He steered Dubai into modern times
Manama: Bahraini politicians yesterday mourned the death of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. They referred to him as "a great figure who helped move the UAE forward and impressively ease Dubai into modern times."
"We mourn today a leader who was able to steer Dubai on the rough road to its high-profile destination. We salute this humble yet great leader who helped turn Dubai into a success story and who spared no effort to contribute to its impressive development.
"As UAE Prime Minister, his leadership qualities at very sensitive and critical times for the region were a source of appreciation and respect," Al Mithaq Society Chairman Ahmad Juma told Gulf News.
The politician said the world would always recall how Shaikh Maktoum had the best interests of the UAE and its people in mind and promoted stability and security as essential pillars for economic progress and social development.
"His sound reading of regional and international situations helped him appreciate the significance of stability for a country to move forward in an unforgiving world. To his lasting credit and to our grateful appreciation, he set a vibrant example for others to emulate," Juma said.
Lawmaker Shaikh Mohammad Khalid said the news of Shaikh Maktoum's demise was disturbing because the late Dubai Ruler was a prominent figure who worked for the interests of his nation.
