Ministry expresses deep regret over statements on condition of Egyptian prisoners
Cairo: Egypt’s Foreign Ministry expressed its deep regret over statements on the condition of Egyptian prisoners in the UAE, and emphasised its deep and historic brotherly relations with the UAE.
“UAE-Egyptian relations are based on mutual respect and interest, and cannot be affected by randomly made statements,” said Ambassador Bader Abdul Atti, Official Spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said in an statement issued on Sunday.
He said the ministry voiced its profound regret over statements by an Egyptian parliamentary member Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Mutwali against the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in its dealing with the issue of Egyptian prisoners in the UAE. Mutwali accused Egyptian ambassadors abroad of spying against Egyptian expatriates. Atti described the accusations as serious and cannot be tolerated and overlooked.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry appealed to the Chairman of the Shura council and chairman of the Arab and Foreign Affairs committee to take all necessary measures as per the council’s rules and regulations to avoid such irresponsible statements and conduct.
Atti added that the ministry, through the Egyptian Embassy in the UAE, is closely following up on the case of Egyptian citizens who were arrested in the UAE. He said that the ministry is providing the prisoners with all necessary care and legal assistance.
