Dubai: The cornerstone of a prominent female writer's Federal National Council election programme is to enhance the role of the council in the decision making process.

Aisha Sultan, a writer running for the FNC, announced that her main task, if elected, is to work for an increasing legislative role for FNC as this is the only factor guaranteeing a strong and active council.

"How can we give promises to improve elements of our society when the council only have an advisory function? The council should be able to take an active role in the decision making process in order to work for the benefits of the community," said Sultan.

According to Sultan, it is the constitution itself that puts restrictions on the role of the council and to be able to empower the council a change in the constitution is imperative.

Sultan will also push for greater public representation by demanding doubling of the number of FNC members, regulation of government bodies and full employment for Emiratis.
