Doha: The Gulf Cooperation Council has welcomed a proposal by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to strengthen bilateral ties between the six Gulf countries and Iran and would study it.
“The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council welcomed the proposals of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahamdinejad, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, mentioned in his address before the opening session of the 28th GCC summit held in Doha on December 3, 2007,'' said the statement.
“The Supreme Council stressed that the proposals will be studied by the GCC with a view to promoting all types of good-neighbourly relations and reciprocal respect between the GCC member States and the Islamic Republic of Iran and further contribute to supporting the security and stability of the region,'' it further added.
The Iranian President has presented to the six Gulf leaders an 11-point blueprint to enhance economic, commercial and security ties between the two sides.
