Firefighters chance upon alcohol stockpile

Sharjah: A number of abandoned buildings in the Al Musallah residential district near the Clock Roundabout in Sharjah caught fire on Monday afternoon, a senior police official said.

The Sharjah Police operations control room said a unit of ambulances, criminal investigators and Anjad patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene and the damage was limited to the abandoned buildings.

Police said some Asian men trying to cook a meal over a log fire in one of the buildings had started the fire.

Officials said firefighters had discovered large quantities of alcohol stacked away in the buildings and called on residents to immediately notify them of any suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods.
