Three cars were damaged as debris fell on them
Sharjah: Authorities on Sunday began an investigation into the cause of a fire that broke out in a 10-storey residential building in Sharjah.
Residents of a residential tower in Sharjah’s Jamal Abdul Nasser street were evacuated early morning on Sunday after a fire broke out on the seventh floor of the building. No injuries were reported in the incident.
“Residents of the Al Omraniya Building were evacuated as a precautionary measure as the firefighters doused the blaze,” Brigadier Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News.
The fire started at around 3.30am in apartment No 703, where two single women — an Ethiopian and an Indian — live.
Smoke damaged the three upper floors of the building, Brigadier Al Suwaidi said.
Burning debris from a balcony damaged three cars, which were parked on a sandy area near the building.
All the cars have been removed from the sandy area. The civil defence team brought the fire under control within 30 minutes, Brigadier Al Suwaidi said.
