Father and son rescued after boat sinks off UAE coast

Fujairah: A father and son reported lost at sea on Wed-nesday night have been reunited with their family after surviving hours in the open sea.

Khamees Jawhar and his son Meshel, were finally found yesterday morning by the coastguard search and rescue teams after rough seas forced search efforts to be called off in the early hours of the morning.

The pair reportedly spent hours clinging to blocks of foam after their fishing boat sank.

The authorities were alerted by family members and other fishermen concerned by the failure of the pair to return and loss of communication. The father and son were taken to hospital for medical check-ups. According to a hospital source, they were suffering from severe dehydration, but their condition was described as not life-threatening.

The coastguards and police were joined by civil defence personnel during the overnight search on Wed-nesday in the coastal area opposite the town of Merbeh, from which the father and son team were reported missing.
