Volunteers to clean up beaches

Dubai: The 13th 'Clean Up Arabia' campaign will take place next Saturday all over the UAE and in some neighbouring countries too.

Every year, hundreds of people gather to clean up litter from beaches and dive sites on the east and west coasts of the UAE

In collaboration with the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), local organiser Emirates Diving Association will record the quantity and type of garbage collected by individual groups. The results will be submitted to the ICC, which compiles and analyses this information each year from volunteers all over the world.

The final information will be used to educate the public, business, industry and government officials about the marine debris problem.

EDA and the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water will host the clean-up campaign. Volunteers will be provided with T-shirts and caps, as well as the necessary tools.

The main areas to be covered include Fujairah and Khor Fakkan on the east coast. Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach resort will support both underwater and shoreline clean-ups.

In Abu Dhabi the EDA Abu Dhabi Committee and Environment Agency Abu Dhabi will organise both underwater and shoreline clean-ups.

In Ras Al Khaimah, an underwater clean-up will be arranged by Arabian Diver dive club. In Dubai the activity will be arranged by Al Boom.
