Thunderstorms and rain hit east coast of UAE
Fujairah: Thunderstorms combined with strong winds hit the east coast on Wednesday evening and later on Thursday morning.
The storms were followed by hail fall as residents sheltered in shopping centres and any covered space they could find.
The storms followed moderate rainfall in mountainous parts of the east coast, but it was not until later in the evening that the heavier storms hit Fujairah city.
The heavy rain driven by the strong winds caused a lot of water to seep into residential homes through window and door cracks.
Traffic slowed down due to huge pools forming at road sides and roundabouts.
Some vehicles parked near construction sites were slightly damaged by flying debris.
Engineer Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, Director of Fujairah Municipality, told Gulf News there were no reports of any damage after the flash floods in the wadis (valley).
