American University in Sharjah to hold open day for budding ecologists

April event will highlight positive aspects of working in green sector

Sharjah: The environmental sector is an excellent option for a career path and the American University in Sharjah (AUS) plans to highlight to budding ecologists why at their annual Environmental Day.

Students looking for a career in the green sector are urged to attend to learn more about getting the necessary qualifications. Ecologists number fewer than engineering or business students however, the environmental field is as important and can offer very good salaries. AUS currently offers BSc degrees in biology, chemistry and environmental science.

Environmental Day 2010 themed "Our Environment, Our Life" will take place on April 15 at AUS Main Building, Hall A and Rotunda.

Speakers include an alumni student, Nessrine Al Zahlawi, Conservation Officer at the Emirates Wildlife Association-WWF in Dubai who will talk on life after graduation and her experiences working for a local environmental organisation.

Opening remarks will be made by AUS department head of Biology and Chemistry, Dr Fawwaz Jumean as well as Dr William Heidcamp, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Dr Mohammad Abu Al Eish, chair of the Environmental Day Event.
