Abu Dhabi: An Emirati won the competition for the best decorated car during the National Day celebrations, organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).

Mohammad Hassan Al Marzouqi won the first prize of Dh100,000 and Hamad Hassan Al Ameri won the second prize of Dh90,000. Hamad Mubarak Ali won the third prize of Dh80,000.

Another seven winners received cash prizes ranging from Dh70,000 to Dh10,000.

People's participation

A committee chose the ten best decorated cars out of 350 from all over the UAE which paraded on Abu Dhabi corniche (at ADACH celebration location) from Wednesday to Friday.

ADACH has introduced the competition for the National Day celebrations in order to encourage people's participation in them.

Abdullah Al Ameri, director of the culture and arts department at ADACH, said: "The committee was seeking creativity in decorating the cars and the use of artistic ideas to show their love towards the country.

Most of the decorated cars reflected the spirit of the nation and their owners' pride in belonging to the UAE."

Programmes

About 640,000 people attended the programmes organised as part of the National Day celebrations in the emirate.

Several programmes for children and adults including live concerts by Arab singers were conducted in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia (Western Region).

About 20,000 people attended the cultural activities at the Abu Dhabi corniche, 120,000 people enjoyed the live concerts in the UAE capital, 30,000 in Al Ain and 2,000 in the Western Region.

The world's largest fire-works display off the corniche was witnessed by more than half a million people.
