Abu Dhabi : Emirates Identity Authority (Emirates ID) has sent 23,774 SMS to the executives of the private sector companies in Dubai reminding them to register for ID cards before June May 31 deadline.

The messages in Arabic and English reminded the employees to avoid the fines, Emirates ID said in a press release.

The authority said the text messages are part of media campaigns and advertising to remind residents of Dubai to rush to register for ID cards. It said majority of the people who have not yet registered for ID cards in Dubai are private sector employees. The text messages were sent in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour which provided a list of phone numbers of representatives of large and medium companies in Dubai.

The authority had launched a comprehensive information campaign a year ago calling upon people not to wait until the last minute to register for ID cards. It distributed more than 2.5 million brochures.
