More private institutes, foreign affiliations and upgraded curriculum are in place to meet the changing needs of the Indian hospitality industry.

There are 26 institutes providing courses in hotel management under the National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), which falls under the Ministry of Tourism.

Four new hotel management institutes in Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand and Uttaranchal, affiliated with the NCHMCT, are being planned. Currently, there are around 60 institutes in India approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

In 2002, the Ministry of Tourism, with assistance from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), upgraded the hotel management course offered by the National Council to ensure higher education standards.

Recognising the need for quality training in hospitality management, the Oberoi Group established The Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development in New Delhi in 1966, the Taj group runs a hotel management institute in Aurangabad and ITC has the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration in Manipal.
