The American University of Sharjah’s Model United Nations (AUSMUN) will be conducted for the third year from April 15-17, next year. The event is a fantastic opportunity for high school students to participate in a simulation of the United Nations and experience what happens at its headquarters on a day-to-day basis.
Students are split into groups and assigned countries and various committees that they will represent. The purpose of the MUN is to debate with representatives of various countries and eventually come to a resolution. Students are supposed to be well-versed in the topic they have been assigned and the policies of the country they are representing.
Student interaction
The MUN is an excellent way to meet other students as various social activities will be held. Guest speakers, prominent in the field of international relations, will be invited to address the students.
Participation in the event is also an ideal entry in resumes and prospective university applications, as MUN programmes are internationally recognised.
The Executive Committee in charge of organising the event consists of Luis Garcia, Vidya Diwakar, Sidiqa Sohail, Eva Fernandes, Habon Abdillahi and Nour Merza.
If you are interested in taking part, do inform your faculty advisers and visit www.aus.edu/cas/is/mun for more information.
