Ajman: The lack of adequate air-conditioning in Ajman schools is a major problem, said the principal of one school in Ajman.

There are more than 40 government schools in Ajman for both genders and for all levels.

Lack of adequate air-conditioning, which can be an inconvenience for students during the hot summer months, is the major issue, said the principal.

"Sometimes, we have to take the students to other classes when air-conditioning units are weak or broken, which causes inconvenience as they sometimes take days to repair. In most cases, the air-conditioning units are too weak to handle the unbearable summer heat," the principal said.

A shortage of social workers is another problem, said the principal.

"In addition to social workers, there is a shortage of nurses and also psychiatrists which affects the pupils' performance," he said.

Mohammad S., a Grade VIII pupil at a government school, said his main concern was transportation.

"I do not have anyone to drop me off at school so I have to take the school bus which lacks air-conditioning," he said.
