Dubai: Police rescued 10 sailors whose ship got stranded on an island due to an engine breakdown and unstable weather conditions.

Dubai Police's Ports station managed to rescue the sailors who were aboard the ship which was carrying 98 new cars.

As a result of strong winds, rough weather conditions and strong currents the ship lost its course and hit Palm Jebel Ali beach and stayed there for three days after the captain failed to sail to Sir Bu Nair Island.

Check forecast

Colonel Jasem Al Za'abi, director of the station, said God's mercy saved the sailors. The sailors managed to jump off the ship into the sea after water leaked into the engine room.

Colonel Al Za'abi said the captain had asked for help through the radio but he did not get any help.

He urged beachgoers and sailors to check the weather forecast when conditions are unstable.
