Dubai Appreciation Award for Community Services announced

To honour individuals and firms in medicine, education, social welfare and other fields

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a decree setting up the Dubai Appreciation Award for Community Service.

The award will honour those who have made a positive impact in community service in medicine, education, social welfare and other fields.

Shaikh Mohammad ordered the appointment of Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, as chairman of the award.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, will be the award’s deputy chairman and there will be nine members of the board of trustees from various government departments in Dubai.

The award will be open to individuals and private sector bodies. The individual winners will receive a medal, badge, sash and a pendant.

Private bodies will be honoured in a system to be approved soon by the executive office in Dubai.

The winners will be awarded following a decision by the ruler.

Lt General Dahi said in a press conference held on Tuesday at Dubai Police headquarters that the award will be open to all nationalities. “All those who are serving the community, society and humanity are eligible for the award,” he said.

He said a committee will evaluate people’s achievements.

“There are some people who serve society without announcing this to the public and our role here is to find them and to honour them. This award is society’s appreciation for them,” he said. Lt Lieutenant General Dahi said the award will run all year long. However, he said the details about the awards and who can apply would be announced later. “We will announce soon how the award will be implemented,” Lt General Dahi said.

“There is no limit for the award applicants and there is no specific time to honour those who deserve it,” he said.

“The members of the board of trustee will meet every three months to decide how and when to honour the honoured,” he said.

Lieutenant General Dahi said this award reflects the cultural and historical views of Dubai.

He said the award aims to honour individuals and private companies and institutions who provide a valuable service to the community through initiatives and the work they provide in the areas of social welfare, health and education and other fields that serve UAE society, It aims to achieve stability and integration and solidarity among its members, to be vital and coherent, without regard to profit or personal gain.

He said the launch of this award reflects the interest of Shaikh Mohammad in honouring those who provide outstanding services to the community and embodies his vision of leadership.

He said that the award will have a positive impact by encouraging everyone ttoo offer their best to serve the development of Dubai..

“This award is a tribute and recognition of the efforts and thanks and praise to those who devote part of their time to provide a benefit to society,” he said. He urged all community members to serve society at all levels and to provide social initiatives for the development of society.
