Documentary on UAE resident to premiere on Canadian TV

Everest: A documentary featuring a UAE resident's bid to climb Everest to promote peace will make its television debut in Canada on November 7.

Everest: A Climb for Peace features Ali Bushnaq, a Palestinian working in Jebel Ali who attempted to climb the world's highest peak with two Israeli friends in 2006 in a bid to forge peaceful relations between the nations.

Bushnaq and Israel's Dudu Yifrah and Micha Yaniv came together while attempting to summit Everest as part of the Everest Peace Project, a group which, in organising a Climb for Peace, hoped to promote a global community of peace, teamwork and cultural understanding.

Narrated by actor Orlando Bloom and hailed by the Dalai Lama as a "tremendous achievement", the documentary explores peace, war and the power of the human spirit.

Filmed on location in Nepal, Tibet, Israel, Palestinian territories, Jordan, and the United States, as well as the UAE, the documentary chronicles the spectacular journey of nine peace climbers from different faiths and cultures as they embark on their journey, believing that "It's through actions of peace that peace is spread".

The film won the Best Documentary category at the Mt. Shasta Film Festival and the makers have just signed a deal with APT (American Public Television) to represent and sell the film to a worldwide television and DVD audience.
