Dh1.1 billion dinosaur-themed park to be built in Dubai

Dubai: A dinosaur-themed park is due to be built in the City of Arabia development.

The Dh1.1 billion Restless Planet park will house the world's largest collection of animatronic dinosaurs, similar to those filmed in Steven Spielberg's ‘Jurassic Park'.

It will also house an earth science museum and planetarium and is due to be opened at the end of 2010 (located at the gateway of Dubailand).

Designer Jack Rouse is currently working on Restless Planet, which will combine theatre, drama, a variety of themed rides, shows and art with an ‘edutainment' theme.

Dr Jack Horner is also a member of the design team, and was the real life inspiration for the book ‘Jurassic Park', who also served as scientific consultant to Spielberg on the three movies.

Rouse said: “What makes Restless Planet so cool and truly one of a kind is that it is real science coupled with animatronics and theme park thrills, over-laid with dramatic effects and world-class production values.''

“We'll have more than 100 animatronic creatures, some 50 feet (15 metres) tall, combined with photo real, computer-generated imaging, dioramas and a litany of special effects. It will make visitors feel almost uncomfortably close to a variety of dinosaur species, and at times they'll even get to feel they're underwater, exploring dinosaurs of the deep.''

The exterior of Restless Planet will be a 74 metre tall dome and huge ‘cloud' building.
