A man accused of slashing four women in Sharjah with a knife has been sentenced to six months in jail and fined Dh500 for each of the offences, his lawyer said yesterday.
His lawyer, Abdul Karim Ahmad Bin Eid, advocate and legal consultant, told Gulf News the case was handled on the basis of "humanitarian grounds".
He said: "Since I took over Jude's case, there were three hearings. The judgment, supposed to be passed on August 15, was postponed till today. We will appeal in 15 days and might ask for a committee of doctors to study my client's condition."
Speaking to Gulf News from Sri Lanka, Jude's father Peter Pereira said: "I haven't yet told my wife that she won't be able to see her son for two more years."
