Three youngsters arrested for robbing more than 20 shops in RAK

Ras Al Khaimah: Police have arrested three teenagers, ages 13 to 17, following a spate of shop break-ins in the emirate.

Speaking at a press conference, Lieutenant Colonel Salem Sultan Al Darmaki, who heads the Investigation Section at RAK CID, said the police had received reports of break-ins in different areas of Ras Al Khaimah over the past eight months.

He said that a woman had also lodged a complaint that Dh40,000 had been stolen from her car after the vehicle was broken into.

He said General Shaikh Taleb Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, directed the setting up of a team of investigators to trace the suspects.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Darmaki added investigations led them to an Asian teenager who had huge amounts of money, despite coming from a poor family. He said the teenager was caught while breaking into a commercial establishment.

During police investigations, the youngster confessed to breaking into 20 establishments, together with three other Asian teenagers. He gave police the names of his accomplices and they were detained. One of the suspects was released without charge.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Darmaki said the teen-age team was responsible for stealing between Dh80,000 to Dh200,000 in cash along with DVDs, telephone cards and other valuables. The three teen-agers confessed to the break-ins.
