Dubai: Three Indian workers have been jailed over the murder of a compatriot.

The victim was beaten to death and the trio attempted to make it look like an accident by dumping the body under a bus.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced Indian worker, R.B., 28, to five years in jail for battering his compatriot to death with a stick.

His two compatriot construction workers, P.D. and J.M., will each spend three years in jail for assisting him in hiding the body by dumping it under a bus.

Police sniffer dogs helped solve the parking lot killing where the victim, S., was initially thought to have been run over by a bus.

The Public Prosecution charged R.B., with premeditated murder of the victim and charged his colleagues with concealing the body. The trio will also be tried for consuming liquor before the Misdemeanour Court. They will be deported after serving their punishments.

During investigation, police found that S. had died of massive head injuries, probably inflicted with a heavy stick.

Police found a shoe at the accident site which did not belong to the victim, and police with the help of a sniffer dog identified the suspect.

R.B. told the court earlier that he and his two friends were drinking in a parking lot when the victim came and asked to join in. Records showed that he confessed to hitting the victim with a stick after a violent argument.

The other defendants then dumped the body under the bus and left.

The bus driver unknowingly drove over it. Forensic doctors confirmed that the victim died of severe head blows and not because the bus running over his body.
