Dubai: Three workers were treated for smoke inhalation at the Kuwaiti Hospital following a major fire that broke out at an oil storage facility in Sharjah on Friday, a senior official from the Ministry of Interior said on Saturday.
There were no casualties in the incident, said Saif Al Shafar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior.
The fire which broke out at 11:20pm on Friday had a team of fire fighters engaged in "cooling off" operations until late afternoon on Saturday.
The Sharjah port was temporarily closed hours after the fire erupted at the oil storage facility of the Emirates Lube Oil Company Ltd at Khalid port.
Sharjah police said in a statement that as a safety and precautionary measure, Zulal Water Company has also been temporarily closed to avoid water pollution.
Labour accommodations located near the place of the fire have also been evacuated and electricity cut off.
