Ras Al Khaimah: Police announced on Sunday the detention of three Indians who allegedly stole Dh29,000 from a compatriot and later knocked him down with their car to get silence his shouts and screams.

The victim withdrew Dh40,000 from a bank in Ras Al Khaimah and, on leaving, one of the suspects allegedly asked to see the UAE banknotes which he did not recognise as he claimed to be a newcomer to the country.

Lieutenant Colonel Salem Sultan Al Darmaki, who heads the Investigation Section at the Criminal Investigation Department of the RAK Police, said the case was reported to the police operation room by the 35-year old victim identified as M.A.F.

He added that the victim claimed that he was robbed by one of three Asians after he withdrew the money. The victim alleges responded positively to the enquiry and passed the envelop of money to the suspect.

Al Darmaki said the suspect counted the money and secretly stole Dh29,000 but the victim did not notice the missing amount immediately. The suspects fled the scene leaving his victim with the envelope.

Later, the victim counted his money and was shocked to find some missing. Lt Col Al Darmaki said the victim chased the suspects in their car and caught up with them.

They allegedly attempted to kill him by running over him. The victim sustained moderate injuries and was later referred to Saqr Hospital.
