Three inmates charged with hiding drugs in cell

Dubai: Three inmates are standing trial for allegedly hiding three heroin pouches in a food container and concealing hashish in two straws inside their prison cell's washroom.

Records said the director of Dubai Central Prison ordered the jail guards to search the prison cells for banned substances.

Testimony

"Major General Mohammad Humaid Al Suwaidi ordered us to search one of the chambers for drugs ... my colleague, a lieutenant, asked me to carry out the drug search and when I reached the Emirati defendants' chamber, I didn't find anything in the cell.

Meanwhile, a policeman found the drugs hidden in the cell's private washroom," testified a second lieutenant, who participated in the search for drugs in the prison.

The Public Prosecution charged the suspects, 25-year-old K.M., 21-year-old H.Y. and 22-year-old Y.A., with possessing 1.93 grams of heroin and 7.5 grams of hashish. One of the suspects who appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.

Counter-point

The suspect claimed that the law enforcement officers did not confront them with the confiscated drugs.

A policeman, who searched the suspects' cell, claimed in his statement that he found the hashish hidden in two straws, which were wrapped in wet clothes that were soaked in a red bucket.

"We also found the heroin pouches hidden in the washroom as well," he alleged.
