Store worker charged with stealing DVD

Dubai: A shopping centre employee is standing trial for an alleged attempt to steal a children's video game DVD.

Dubai Police failed to present the 25-year-old Filipino suspect before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday despite a scheduled appearance to face the charges made against him.

The Public Prosecution charged the suspect, identified as A.M., with stealing the DVD worth Dh170.

Documents made available to the court said the security guards at the store where the suspect worked stopped him from leaving the place with the stolen item.

A.M. admitted in his statement to the Public Prosecution that he walked into the children games section while on duty and picked up the DVD and briefly kept it in his possession before trying to leave the store. Security guards however stopped him as he tried to leave with the DVD and later handed him over to the police.

Records said A.M. admitted to stealing the DVD when questioned by the police.
