Son 'killed father with hammer'
Dubai: A man is facing charges of battering his elderly wheelchair-bound father to death in front of family members, Gulf News learnt on Monday.
The Public Prosecution is questioning the 29-year-old Pakistani, A.A., on allegations of killing his 62-year-old father, C.A.
C.A.'s body was found at his family home after A.A.'s mother reported the incident to police.
Her son reportedly hit his father repeatedly on the head with a hammer in front of his mother and sister following a heated argument, said police records.
The Public Prosecution has referred the suspect to Rashid Hospital's psychological ward to examine whether he has a mental disorder and whether he is responsible for his behaviour.
The family contacted lawyer Eisa Bin Haidar, of Bin Haidar Advocates and Legal Consultants, who said he will await the examination report before deciding whether to handle the case or not.
Unstable
Bin Haidar told Gulf News on Monday: "If he turns out to be mentally unstable and not responsible for his behaviour then the Public Prosecution will close the case and he will be deported. However, if he turns out to be responsible for his behaviour, he will be referred to court."
Sources said the father failed to avoid the attack and family members failed to restrain the son.
