Six workers jailed for stealing from electronics company
Dubai: Six workers have been jailed for stealing a total of nine laptops and computers from an electronics company operating from a villa in Jebel Ali.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the accused - all Pakistanis ages 21 to 32 - to six months in jail on charges of theft. They will be deported after serving their prison terms but the ruling is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
Records said the men admitted to breaking into the company and making a clean getaway with the computers before two of them were arrested when they returned to try their luck a second time.
A Filipino security guard testified that he saw two Pakistanis jumping over the villa's wall and also spotted a third one in the backyard one evening.
"Immediately, I informed my supervisor and went inside... I found two men hiding inside a closet," he said.
A 45-year-old Indian supervisor, K.M., testified that he rushed to the villa along with one of the guards and managed to nab one of the suspects as he tried to flee.
"Police rushed to the scene after we informed them [about] what had happened... two other members of the gang were also captured.
"There were nine laptops and computers missing," K.M. said during questioning.
Police caught the rest of the gang and produced them in court.
