Dubai: Six men yesterday denied in court the charge of murdering a security guard by battering him to death with concrete blocks, after tying him up and gagging him.

Prosecutors accused the Pakistani men, aged between 25 and 32, of the Indian guard N.A.'s premeditated murder, which was associated with the crime of stealing electric cables from a warehouse in Nad Al Sheba, which belonged to the company they worked for. Bur Dubai's Chief Prosecutor Sami Al Shamsi has asked the Dubai Court of First Instance to implement the death sentence against the six defendants — a workers' supervisor, two drivers and three workers.

When Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad levelled the charge of premeditated murder associated with theft against the defendants, they all pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted stealing the cables.

According to the charge sheets, two salesmen, aged 21 and 29, were charged with possessing the stolen cables. They pleaded guilty.

Prosecution records said the suspects disconnected the electricity from the warehouse's generator and waited for the guard to come out. The minute he did they tied him up and stuffed a cloth in his mouth.

An Emirati police captain testified they started questioning the company's workers after the murder was reported.
