Police to study alternative punishment
Abu Dhabi: In an effort to modernise policing, the Abu Dhabi police is looking at alternative punishments for minor offences.
Following directives by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a committee has been formed to study the implementation of the project.
A police delegation will leave this week on a worldwide tour to study community policing in the US, Canada, Britain, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia and Singapore.
Alternative punishments range from rehabilitation to ways of holding the offender accountable or repaying the victim.
