Man 'battered colleague to death with iron pipe'
Dubai: A watchman is being tried for purposely battering his colleague to death with an iron pipe after the victim reportedly squeezed his genitals and cursed him.
The 20-year-old Nepalese watchman, J.B., pleaded not guilty to the premeditated murder of his Indian colleague, I.A., before the Dubai Court of First Instance but on Sunday confessed to drinking liquor.
Cursed
The Public Prosecution charged J.B. with drinking and intentionally killing his colleague after he repeatedly battered his face with a 180cm-long iron pipe which he picked up from the site of the attack in Jebel Ali.
A police lieutenant testified: "The suspect claimed to me that the deceased came to his room and squeezed his genitals and then cursed him and kicked him... The suspect alleged that he quarrelled with the victim who ran out of the room. The suspect purported that he chased him to another room and beat him repeatedly with the pipe."
Forensic evidence report said DNA traces of the victim's body matched those which were lifted from the suspect's shoes and jersey.
The defendant told Presiding Judge Saeed Salem Bin Sarm that he was beaten and forced to confess when the CID questioned him.
The court will assign a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes soon.
