Man severely burnt after car rams into lamp post

Sharjah: A man was severely burnt on Sunday morning when his car burst into flames after he crashed into a lamp post on Emirates Road at high speed.

The motorist, who was alone in the car, was speeding and driving in a zig-zag manner from Ajman to Sharjah. He lost control of the car opposite the Tasjeel Vilage and collided into a lamp-post. The car caught fire on impact.

Sharjah Police rushed to the scene and were able to pull out the driver's unconscious body. He had been severely burnt, particularly in the upper body.

A police official said the man was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital and is currently in critical condition.

In a separate incident, a house at Al Qarain in Sharjah caught fire as a result of malfunctioning electrical cables. No casualties were reported. Police warned residents not to leave electric appliances switched on during the day because they can become a hazard because of the hot weather.
