Ras Al Khaimah: A man being tried for murder has denied the charges, telling the court that the hospital surgery conducted on his victim after he beat him was the actual cause of his death, and not the attack itself.

The accused, who was charged with killing his roommate and colleague, admitted to the court panel that he seriously beat the victim but had no any intention of killing him.

A senior court official said that the murderer used a knife while attacking his roommate and that he stabbed him in the face, a couple of centimetres above the eye.

The official added that once the case was reported to the emirate's Police they they arrived on the scene, arrested the suspect and referred the victim to Saqr Hospital for treatment.

The victim died six days later, despite the hospital physicians conducting a critical operation on his brain in a bid to save his life.

The court official said that the court has hired a lawyer to represent the murderer, who claims that his fight with the victim could never have ended his life, whereas the surgery which the physicians conducted could have been the reason for the victim's death.

The next court hearing is scheduled for December 31.
