Man denies beating roommate to death
Dubai: A man has denied beating and kicking his physically challenged roommate, who suffered a heart attack and died, following a scuffle.
The 47-year-old Egyptian trader pleaded not guilty to beating his compatriot roommate to death before the Dubai Court of First Instance. He confessed to consuming liquor.
Witnesses who saw the suspect, M.A., assault the victim, S.A., to death alleged that he punched him in the face and kicked him repeatedly in his chest.
Medical reports confirmed that the deceased suffered a heart attack and died following the assault.
Drunk
The Public Prosecution charged M.A. with beating his roommate in the face, kicking his chest and banging his head. He was drunk when he assaulted the victim.
An Egyptian salesman, who shared the same room with the suspect and the deceased, testified: "The victim was lying on his bed watching TV. Meanwhile, the suspect went up to the roof to consume liquor... the suspect's loud voice surprised and woke me up around 4am and he was bleeding from his lip."
"The defendant sat on the victim's bed and cursed both of us. Then he mocked S.A. for being physically challenged before he beat and kicked him. Several other men who lived on the same floor intervened and stopped the suspect from assaulting the victim... later he kicked him on the chest," the salesman said.
Witnesses told the Public Prosecution that the deceased snored three times before he died. Two policemen confirmed the witnesses' statements.Witnesses who saw the suspect assault the victim to death alleged that he .. kicked him repeatedly in the chest.
