Man admits to breaking into 25 shops in RAK

Ras Al Khaimah: An illegal immigrant who broke into at least 25 stores over the past two months has been arrested, RAK CID announced on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Salem Yousuf Al Zaabi, the department's acting head, said the 45-year-old Egyptian identified as A.S.A. broke the locks of shops and stole cash and valuables.

"Police stations received complaints from the owners of the shops all over the emirate stating the locks of their shops were broken and they had been robbed. The suspect's style was similar in all his break-ins, he robbed the shops late at night leaving the doors of the shops open."

The police commissioned a team to identify the thief. He was caught breaking into a shop in the city of Ras Al Khaimah.

"The police force secured permission from the Public Prosecutor to search the suspect's house where Dh41,000 along with many stolen items were recovered" he said.

Investigations

During police investigations, the suspect confessed to 25 crimes in different areas of the emirate. He had also transferred a large amount of money to Egypt before he was detained.

Police records revealed the suspect was caught in 1988 in a burglary case in which he was given a prison term and deported from the UAE; he returned in 2001 on a visit visa where the police caught him after he broke the lock of a shop where he was jailed and deported once again.
