Kenyan sailor denies possessing marijuana-filled cigarettes

Dubai: A sailor has pleaded not guilty to possessing five marijuana stuffed cigarettes which he intended to sell, a court heard on Monday.

The Public Prosecution charged the 48-year-old Kenyan sailor with possessing five cigarettes containing marijuana which weighed 4.2 grams with intent to sell.

"I don't know anything about drugs and have got nothing to do with the cigarettes... I am not guilty and deny all the charges," the sailor, identified as A.A., told the Dubai Court of First Instance.

An anti-narcotics policeman from Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Police testified: "I headed to Dubai to arrest the sailor upon a warrant issued from RAK's public prosecution.

In cooperation with Dubai's public prosecution and police, a police team headed to the Al Baraha area where we spotted the defendant entering a supermarket.

We didn't find any drugs after searching his flat then we took him to the anti-narcotics police department for blood/urine tests. When we searched him there we found in his possession the five cigarettes which were in his shorts."

The first policeman claimed that the suspect instantly confessed that the cigarettes belonged to him.

Public prosecution records said a suspect named A.K. admitted that he had bought a marijuana cigarette from the sailor for Dh100 and he was supposed to hand it to someone called K. in RAK.
