Dubai: A mechanic has claimed that he was heavily drunk when he mistakenly urinated on the trousers of a salesman who accused him of stealing his mobile.

The Afghan salesman claimed that the 32-year-old Iranian mechanic, who walked out from a pub drunk, ruined his trousers when he relieved himself in the street before he attempted to rob his cell phone, according to records.

"I didn't steal the phone because I was drunk and mistakenly put it in my pocket. I am not guilty," the mechanic, N.G., told the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with assaulting and stealing the cell phone of the Afghan, A.A., and consuming alcohol.

N.G.'s lawyer told the judge: "My client didn't steal the mobile but he unconsciously put it in his pocket... besides it is only a Dh200-worth phone and my client was drunk."

A.A. stated before the Public Prosecution: "I was walking in Bani Yas area when I saw the suspect urinating in the street... he wet my pants and he was heavily drunk. I scolded him and tried to call the police but he held me firmly then grabbed the phone from my hand. When I tried to take it back he pushed and slapped me until a police patrol arrived."

In his statement to the police, the suspect admitted that he was under the influence of liquor.

A verdict will be heard soon.
