Gang circulating fake rupees arrested in Dubai

Dubai: A four-member gang who were involved in counterfeiting and circulating Indian rupees have been arrested by Dubai Police, a police report said on Sunday.

The Dubai Police Cyber Crime Department received information about an Asian gang who were in possession of huge amounts of fake Indian rupees and were planning to circulate them inside and outside the country.

Police also learnt that the gang was looking for brokers or direct buyers.

A police team was tasked to follow up the case and prevent the gang from distributing the counterfeit money.

Trap

An undercover policeman succeeded in penetrating the gang and persuaded a gang member that he had a buyer who wanted to buy a huge amount of Indian rupees.

Police officials said the printing technology and the paper used in the racket were so perfect that only experts and hi-tech devices could detect them.

Police set up a trap for the gang through the undercover policeman who managed to arrange an appointment that brought together the buyer with the gang member.

Confessed

At the arranged meeting policemen were waiting and arrested the gang who confessed to the crime. Police seized the fake Indian notes.

The gang have been taken into custody on charges of counterfeiting and circulating Indian currency.
