Dubai crime rate down by 7%

Dubai: There was a seven per cent drop in crime in the first quarter of this year, the Chief of Dubai Police has said.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said crimes such as robbery, rape, murder, car theft and pick-pocketing have declined.

He said this was commendable considering the rising number of residents and travellers which are increasing by 25 per cent annually.

Lt Gen Dahi said in the last two years the performance of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Dubai Police has improved significantly.

"During the annual inspection, I found a quantum jump in the performance of the new generation of officers in terms of intellectual and knowledge abilities," he said.

""Dubai Police are starting to have an active role in international cases, which could not have been accomplished without the abilities of well-qualified officers and policemen," he said.

He said within the next decade, Dubai Police will have a team of CID officers who, wherever they are taken, will perform the best way because they work in an organised manner.

"This team of officers has the ability to check the criminals and capture them before they enter the country," Lt Gen Dahi said.

He was speaking at the partnership meeting held by the CID of Dubai Police.

Brigadier Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Director of CID, said the department could not have achieved all that without the constant financial and moral support of the General Headquarters of Dubai Police.

Brigadier Al Mazeina honoured the directors of police stations, secondary departments, government and private sector partners and the media in the meeting.
